I have a very student-based practice in which I value building a relationship with students through rapport, trust, and support. I do not simply teach material relevant to specific tests; I strive to teach my students real skills that will help them become effective problem solvers in all situations. My techniques have led to increased academic success in every student I have tutored. I use a lot of the same techniques that I use in my practice as a martial arts instructor. This involves teaching students discipline and the ability to make it through hard academic material as well as life challenges. Rather than simply telling my students answers to problems, I try to bring out their hidden intellect and critical thinking by guiding them with questions so that they may find the answer on their own.I keep my practice fresh as well as unique by continuing my knowledge of methods and techniques through rigorous research of advancements in teaching and psychology. Because this research has given me a wide breadth of skills, I am also well equipped to teach to a wide variety of learning styles. When not tutoring, I participate in karate, kickboxing, hiking, swimming, singing, playing guitar, and drawing.
